Bangladesh Seafood Sector: Priority Investment and Trade Potentials for sector growth

Global seafood supply chain standardization focuses on laboratory testing, inspection, and certification. Bangladesh has 14 laboratories accredited by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) for food safety testing, with only 4 specifically equipped for seafood analysis (Source: Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh, 2022). The technological advancement and evaluation of labs, global standards, compliance for key markets (EU, the US, and Japan) and standardization of marine fisheries are the key factors to achieving Bangladesh’s goal to become a regional hub for investment.

Session Objectives:

  • Assess Labs and Enhancement Needs: Evaluate current labs and identify areas needing
    improvement for global standards.
  • Understand Global Compliance: Learn compliance essentials for key markets like the EU, US, and
    Japan.
  • Emphasize Fisheries Standardization: Highlight the need for standardized practices in marine fisheries.
  • Explore Certification Impact: Analyze the benefits of certifications like Global Gap for product quality and market access.
  • Highlight Private Sector Role: Emphasize the private sector’s role in investing and branding for premium market access in the seafood industry.
