Rear Admiral (retd.) Md. Khurshed Alam BN currently serves as the Secretary (Maritime Affairs Unit) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh. A former two-star Admiral of the Bangladesh Navy, Alam also held the prestigious position of President of the International Seabed Authority Council. In 1991, he was appointed as the Defence Adviser in the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia. Post-retirement from the Navy, Alam transitioned to the Foreign Ministry's Maritime Affairs Unit on a contractual basis in 2009. Notably, he led the Bangladesh Continental Shelf technical team, overseeing preparations, documentation, and conducting a seismic survey in the Bay of Bengal, culminating in the final submission and presentation to the Commission on the limits of the Continental Shelf of the United Nations. Recognizing his instrumental role in peacefully resolving maritime disputes with neighboring countries Myanmar and India, the Foreign Ministry honored him with the Bangabandhu Medal for Diplomatic Excellence in 2020.
